The Celebration Story

The Story of the Day

Some weddings are a single moment. This one was an entire world. Kojo and Nana — born and raised South Africans, deeply rooted in their Ghanaian heritage — didn't choose between their two cultures. They honoured both, fully and without compromise, weaving them together into one extraordinary day at the bride's family home in Pretoria. The morning began with the traditional Ghanaian ceremony. Kojo and Nana were draped in vibrant kente cloth — bold geometric patterns in gold, cobalt blue and ivory — and seated in ornate woven peacock thrones, adorned with gold jewellery and beaded accessories passed down through generations. It was regal, joyful, and deeply intentional. The colour, the symbolism, the weight of ancestry — all of it present in every fold of fabric and every ritual observed. As the day moved into the western ceremony, the couple changed into a second set of traditional attire — this time a stunning beaded kente ensemble that bridged the formality of the occasion with the richness of their roots. There was never a moment where one culture overshadowed the other. Both were given their full dignity. The reception told its own story through restraint. A lush garden marquee, dressed entirely in whites, greens and natural textures — cascading tropical foliage, monstera leaves, white orchids and lilies, rattan pendant lights hanging overhead — was designed to let the people in the room be the colour. And they were. Against that quiet, verdant backdrop, the kente, the beads, the gold, and the joy of 200 guests celebrating together became the most beautiful decor of all. This was more than a wedding. It was a homecoming, a celebration of identity, and a love story told in two languages — simultaneously.
